Philippians 4:8
"Brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things."
I think we all know what it's like when our minds get stuck in negative cycles. Thoughts of discouragement, self-condemnation, anger, and impurity go around and around inside our heads.
But Paul was telling the Philippians that, as people redeemed by Christ, they had the power to choose where they would set their thoughts. They could develop new habits of dwelling on thoughts of light instead of thoughts of darkness. In the Spirit's power, they could actually change their own mindset.
So I want to ask you a question today, and I want you to be honest about it. What do you think is holding you back from being who God has called you to be?
Maybe you're listing things like hurtful events of the past, people who are opposing you, and situations that seem to limit you. But here's what I've learned: These aren't really the things that hold us back.
Those who overcome deal with the same obstacles as those who live in a cycle of defeat. They just deal with them differently. They face them with courage, a determination to gain the victory, and a prevailing spirit. They handle their fears with faith.
It's not the thing that holds you back; it's how you think about the thing that holds you back. You can follow thoughts to your destruction or your destiny. The choice is yours.
