Galatians 6:9
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." (Galatians 6:9)
As a pastor, I have the privilege of sharing God's Word each and every week. Considering the fact that I've been preaching for quite a few years now, you would probably think I'm past the point of getting nervous about it. But the truth is, just before I preach, I often find myself fighting extreme discouragement.
All week I spend time sowing and plowing — preparing to share what God has put on my heart. But just before I get ready to share it — that's when the greatest resistance comes. It seems like this is a common pattern — not just for preachers, but for all of us. The enemy doesn't mind us sowing; he just wants to keep us from reaping.
The enemy will let you think of ideas all day long. He'll let you study in the concordance of your Bible and look up 37 definitions of love, but when you go to put love into action—when you go to bear the fruit—that is when he will increase the intensity of his attacks.
So ask yourself where you're getting hung up right now. Maybe you've been making some progress in overcoming a sinful habit or addiction — but now it's getting harder and you're not sure you can really put it behind you.
I want to encourage you today to not give up. Plow the ground. Sow the seed. And when things get harder, realize that's a sign it's almost harvest time. You're on the borderline of a breakthrough.
