Romans 4:3
"What does Scripture say? 'Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.'"
The plot, characters, and setting of a book are all experienced through whomever the author chooses to tell the story. And I've found that in life you have to select a narrator, because the narrator you choose will determine the way you experience life.
You have an internal narrator. It is the voice inside that tries to tell you what to think about every situation and how to interpret the motives of people in those situations.
The reality is, some of us need a new narrator. Maybe you have an annoying, whiny, complaining, negative narrator, and it's wearing you out!
But I have good news for you. You can choose a new storyteller. You can have a life narrated by faith, not by feelings, and grace, not mistakes!
Abraham, while he was waiting on God to give him a son, slept with his wife's servant to try to produce a son. We first hear this story in the Book of Genesis, but when Paul talks about Abraham in Romans 4, this part of the story didn't make the cut. Isn't that interesting?
It all comes down to the narrator. Paul, the author of Romans, a man who devoted his life to preaching about the grace of God, determined that this part of Abraham's story wasn't important for this application. Only his faith mattered.
When your life is narrated by the grace of Jesus Christ, some of the failures that are most prominent in your mind end up on the cutting room floor.
